The tour includes six tastings across five stops in downtown Halifax and along the waterfront: saltwater taffy to start, a cup of seafood chowder, deep-fried pepperoni with honey mustard, a donair poutine, a surprise at our secret stop, and a chocolate tasting on the harbour. Water is included and a local guide leads the whole way. A drink upgrade is available for guests 19 and over.

The tour meets at Grand Parade on Barrington Street, the civic square between Halifax City Hall and St Paul's Church in the heart of downtown. It is a short walk from most downtown hotels and from the cruise berths. Your guide will be waiting in the square with a Secret Food Tours sign.

Your guide will be carrying an Orange umbrella so will be easy to spot.

The food tour will end at Halifax Waterfront by Queens Landing

Yes, the tour suits older children and teenagers happy to walk for a few hours and try new food. The walking pace and tasting format work best for guests able to keep up over three hours. The drink upgrade is for guests 19 and over only.

This is not a problem. Just inform our guide before the tour starts. During the tasting you can select another beverage you like.

We give enough food to all our customers. Trust us, you will not need to go to any restaurant after the Food tour!

Our tours are often sold out very quickly. If the date you requested is not available, please do not hesitate to email us and we can see if there is anything we can do.

We cap public departures at fourteen guests. Small groups keep the pace easy, let the guide give everyone attention, and mean the stops look after us properly rather than treating us as a coach party.

You do not have to print your voucher. A confirmation on your phone will be fine!

All of our vouchers expire one year from the date of purchase.

You must book directly on our website. We do not accept cash payments. Our online payment is safe, secured and SSL protected.

The booking fee that you have to pay is up to our ticket provider and we can't change it. All our clients need to pay for it upon booking. The booking fee charged contributes to the cost of the ticketing system to provide an excellent service to our customers.

A few banks have charged their customer an extra fee while booking with us (this isn't the booking fee but another fee added by the bank). We think this is unfair, if this happens let us know by showing us in your bank statement and we will refund this fee as a gesture of good will.

We always offer the lowest price on our Secret Food Tours. If you find one of our food tours listed at a lower price, contact us and we'll match it.

The tour runs about three hours on foot, at an easy pace through downtown Halifax and along the waterfront boardwalk. You taste as you go, so there is no long sit-down meal, only steady walking with regular stops.

Six tastings add up to a full lunch across the afternoon. Arrive hungry and you will not need a meal afterwards. If anything, you will leave with a list of places to come back to for dinner.

A donair is spiced beef carved off a vertical spit, folded into warm flatbread with a sweet condensed-milk garlic sauce found nowhere else. Halifax invented it, and in 2015 the city made it the official food of Halifax, the only municipal food in Canada. On this tour you taste it as a donair poutine.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the harbour, where it runs cooler and breezier than inland. Bring a light layer or a rain jacket depending on the day. You will not need much else, as the food and water are provided.

It is one of the better ways to get your bearings on a first visit. In one afternoon you eat the city's official donair, taste its seafood, and walk the downtown and waterfront where most first-timers want to spend their time anyway.

Everything sits within a walkable stretch between Grand Parade and the harbour, so you get the port, the history, and the food in a few blocks.
