What you'll do

Our Secret Food Tour: Tokyo will introduce you to the best of Japanese cuisine. You'll learn from our guides about all the delicate nuances of flavor as they change with the seasons and how our appreciation for Japanese customs and traditions plays into the preparation and enjoyment of our local food.

You will eat delicious sushi, gyoza, mouth-watering yakitori, Tokyo style croquette and lots more. And of course there is our Secret Dish!

Quality drinks will be served at some stops, however if you would like more, a thoughtfully curated Upgraded Drinks Package is available.

  • We'll begin with one of the most popular sushi shops to enjoy freshly made sushi and start walking through the bustling local streets near the station
  • As we leave the busy station area we head toward the downtown district to enjoy some fried or steamed dumplings called Gyoza.
  • Then a short hop away a staple of the Japanese street food, the famous Yakitori served with a draft beer or a flavoured Sawa in a busy Tachinomiya (stand up eat & drink restaurant).
  • We then stop by another classic street food, taking away a "Croquette" to enjoy as we stroll through the shops of the Ameyoko area.
  • Time to switch from savoury to sweet with our first choice of Manju or depending upon the season some freshly cut fruit.
  • And a trip to Japan would not be considered fulfilled if one did not enjoy some Matcha ice cream
  • As with all our tours, there's our delicious Secret Dish in a cosy environment.

WHY THE UENO DISTRICT?

Located north-east of the heart of Tokyo, Ueno has been a perfect destination for those who desire good food and cultural exploration. What makes Ueno distinctively unique is its dynamic blend of contrasts; chaos and serenity, urban development and natural beauty, modernity and tradition, common touch and nobility.

Ueno Park is located on what was once the grounds of the largest, most prestigious temple in Edo (old Tokyo), from the 17th to 19th century. It is one of the most beloved cherry-blossom viewing spots in Tokyo. Local Japanese and tourists flock together for shopping and eating at its nearby district Ameyoko, where you will find a countless number of unique bars and dining places.

Is your food tour suitable for a vegetarian or someone with other dietary requirements?

You can always tell our guides of any food allergies or special dietary requirements. We will adapt the menu so you can fully enjoy the tour! If you have any doubts or concerns, feel free to email us at [email protected] before booking.

Where do I add my discount voucher?
Vocuher
I would like to take your tour but it is already fully booked. Is there a way I can do the tour?

Our tours are often sold out very quickly. If the date requested is not available, please do not hesitate to email us and see if there is anything we can do. We cannot promise, but we will try our best to sort something out for you.

Is there a lot of walking?

To join our food tour, you must wear comfortable shoes. There will be around 45 minutes to one hour of walking, but it is not too difficult and is broken up between food stops. The guide walks at the pace of the tour members.

How many people max are on this tour?

Can I choose my own cheese and meat?

Where does your food come from?

Top-quality, fresh and local!

What if it rains or I change my plans?

Unfortunately, the weather is unpredictable in Tokyo especially in early and late summer seasons. Bring an umbrella with you. We will try rerouting so we are not affected as much but please come prepared for the weather. In the case that a huge typhoon is approaching and any considerable difficulties and risks are predicted, the tour will be cancelled for your safety. Such cancellation will be notified to you in advance, at least a few hours before the tour. You will receive full refund in that case. Also, there are no tours during the period from December 29, 2018 to January 6, 2019 as most Food Houses will be flooded by locals and very difficult to run the tour. We do not issue refunds as per our terms and conditions if this is a case that you change your plan.

Can I pay the tour in cash?

You must book directly on our website. We do not accept cash payments. Our online payment is safe, secured and SSL protected.

Why do we need to pay for booking fee?

The booking fee that you have to pay is up to our ticket provider and we can't change it. All our clients need to pay for it upon booking. The booking fee charged contributes to the cost of the ticketing system to provide an excellent service to our customers.

Foreign Transaction Fees

A few banks have charged their customer an extra fee while booking with us (this isn't the booking fee but another fee added by the bank). We think this is unfair, if this happens let us know by showing us in your bank statement and we will refund this fee as a gesture of good will.
