Seven food stops across Old Town and Chinatown, a local guide for the full three hours, and one secret dish we do not name in advance. You get Pacific seafood at the Inner Harbour, an olive oil and balsamic tasting, chocolate from a heritage Victoria shop, a Fort Street bakery stop, a tuna taco in a heritage market square, and barbecue pork in Canada's oldest Chinatown. Drinks are not included in the standard ticket.

We meet outside the Destination Greater Victoria Visitor Centre on the Inner Harbour, on the harbour side of the entrance. It is a five-minute walk from the Empress and the Parliament Buildings, and about ten minutes from the ferry terminals. Your guide will be waiting outside with a Secret Food Tours sign.

Your guide will be carrying an Orange umbrella so will be easy to spot.

Tell us at the time of booking. Several stops have options, and our local team checks with each venue in Old Town and Chinatown before your departure to confirm what they are able to serve. We do not promise a substitution ahead of that check, because the answer depends on the venue and on the day you travel.

Yes. There is a child ticket, and the route is flat, short, and easy to break off from if a younger guest has had enough. The food is not spicy, though the tuna taco and the barbecue pork are worth checking with a fussy eater first.

This is not a problem. Just inform our guide before the tour starts. During the tasting you can select another beverage you like.

We give enough food to all our customers. Trust us, you will not need to go to any restaurant after the Food tour!

Our tours are often sold out very quickly. If the date you requested is not available, please do not hesitate to email us and we can see if there is anything we can do.

To join our food tour, you should wear comfortable shoes. There will be around 45mins of walking but it is not too difficult. If you walk slowly, then our guide will walk slowly as well.

Twelve guests at most. Small groups are the point of it, because a counter in Chinatown or a tasting bar on Broughton Street does not work with thirty people in the room.

You do not have to print your voucher. A confirmation on your phone will be fine!

All of our vouchers expire one year from the date of purchase.

You must book directly on our website. We do not accept cash payments. Our online payment is safe, secured and SSL protected.

The booking fee that you have to pay is up to our ticket provider and we can't change it. All our clients need to pay for it upon booking. The booking fee charged contributes to the cost of the ticketing system to provide an excellent service to our customers.

A few banks have charged their customer an extra fee while booking with us (this isn't the booking fee but another fee added by the bank). We think this is unfair, if this happens let us know by showing us in your bank statement and we will refund this fee as a gesture of good will.

Many of our tours are not wheelchair or stroller accessible. We recommend contacting us before booking to discuss this specific tour and accessibility options.

We always offer the lowest price on our Secret Food Tours. If you find one of our food tours listed at a lower price, contact us and we'll match it.

Yes, in two ways. A couple of the venues close one or two days a week, so Sunday and Monday departures run six stops rather than seven, with a different bakery item. From October to March the seafood chowder at the harbour is replaced by a South Indian dosa, shared between two guests, and there is no Tuesday departure in those months.

Comfortable shoes and a waterproof layer. Victoria is mild but wet for much of the year, and the first stop is outdoors on the causeway with no shelter. Bring a bottle of water, and come hungry enough for seven stops.

Because the two districts sit on top of each other and both came out of the 1858 gold rush. Old Town was the commercial heart of western Canada's main port until 1900, and Chinatown next door is the oldest in the country. Walking them in one go puts a Pacific seafood window, a British bakery, an 1880s chocolatier and a Chinatown barbecue counter within 1.5 kilometres of each other.

It works well as a first morning. You cover the Inner Harbour, Old Town and Chinatown on foot, you eat properly rather than picking at samples, and you finish at midday with your bearings and a list of places to go back to. A lot of our guests book it on day one for that reason.
