What you'll do

On our Secret Food Tour: Hanoi, you'll sample many local dishes from little pancakes, fresh papaya salads with beef, to a big bowl of noodle soup and grilled pork with rice. We'll wash everything down with a sip of Vietnamese coffee and traditional juices.

You'll explore our culinary world and experience local life with a visit to a temple, a lake located at the heart of our capital, and an ancient house where you'll broaden your horizons. And, don’t forget our Secret Dish as well!

Quality drinks will be served at some stops, however if you would like more, a thoughtfully curated Upgraded Drinks Package is available.

You'll start with a light and refreshing appetizer of nom bo kho, a green papaya salad with beef.
We'll watch how locals make a steamed meat and mushroom pancake, then enjoy it while hot and fresh.
You'll savor a bowl of phò, considered to be Vietnam's unofficial national dish.
We'll sample fresh fruits on our way to the Old Quarter.
Next, we'll try bun cha, rice noodles topped with grilled pork.
We'll sip sugar cane juice with cumquat or hot soup depending on the season.
We'll indulge in a classic bánh mì, a crisp baguette, cheese, pickled vegetables, sausage, fried egg, and chicken or beef.
We'll take a seat in a cozy café to dine on sausage and cashews with a regional rice wine.
As with all our tours, there's our delicious Secret Dish.

WHY THE HANOI OLD QUARTER?

This is considered the heart of Vietnam's 1,000 year-old capital. Worldwide, food lovers refer to this area as heaven because of the variety of street foods and their complex flavors, ranging from small snacks to main dishes and sweet desserts. There are many family-owned restaurants that have been run for generations, and their special recipes and secret ways to cook delicious, authentic Hanoian food cannot be found anywhere else.

This area is also home to a beloved holy attraction — Hoan Kiem Lake (Sword Lake). This is a source of deep pride for all Hanoians and the starting point for measuring any distance. There is a traditional food market in the area as well. We experience the freshness of ingredients provided to the nearby restaurants early morning.

How do I order?

That is very easy! Go to our "Book Now" page, where we detail our tours. Select your tour and the time of your tour and book it! Are you looking for something special? Are you organizing an event? Just email us at Group & Private Tours and we will do our best to arrange something that suits you. After your booking is made, we will send you an automatic email confirmation. What is included in the food tour?

All the delicious food and drinks mentioned above, but if you want more alcohol (and who doesn't?) We offer a upgraded drinks package that gives you 2 drink.

Where is the meeting spot?

You can find the meeting spot here and if it's not clear you can always contact us.

We will meet at Thang Long Water Puppet Theater - 57 Dinh Tien Hoang Street - Thang Long Water Puppet Theater which is a familiar address for both domestic tourists and foreign ones. Our guide will be standing there to greet you with our Orange Secret Tours umbrella so we are easy to spot!

Where the tour will end?

We end our tour at the final stop - Giang's Café shop (39 Nguyen Huu Huan street). But for those who desire to explore Old Streets more, you will be pointed in the right direction to explore or back hotel.

Is your food tour suitable for a vegetarian or someone with other dietary requirements?

You can always tell our guide of any food allergies or special dietary requirements so that way we will adapt the menu so you can enjoy the tour! If you have any doubt or concerns, feel free to email us at [email protected] before booking. We have had many vegetarians doing the tour with us and they all enjoyed it thoroughly.

I am traveling with my family, is the tour ok for infants/children?

Children are quite welcome and it's free for any child 2 years or under. We can give them non-alcoholic drinks and you are free to enjoy the tour with your entire family of all ages.

I don't drink alcohol. Can I book your tour?

There is beer in this tour. Just inform our guide before your tour starts if you have any special request.

Is there enough food during your tour?

There is a lot of food on this tour and we recommend a light or no dinner prior. As we travel you get many delicious treats that comprise a meal with fruit and sweets. Trust us, you will not need to go to any restaurant after the Food tour!

Where do I add my discount voucher?

I would like to take your tour but it is already fully booked. Is there a way I can do the tour?

Our tours are often sold out very quickly. If the date requested is not available, please do not hesitate to email us and see if there is anything we can do. We cannot promise but we will try our best to sort something out for you.

Is there a lot of walking?

To join our food tour, you must wear confortable shoes. There will be around 45 minutes to one hour of walking but it is not too difficult and is broken up between food stops. If you walk slowly, then our guide will walk slowly as well.

How many people max are on this tour?

We take 10 people maximum. If you are more than 10 people, please do not hesitate to email us and we will try to see if we can accommodate.

I cannot find a way to print the confirmation. Is it OK if I have it on my phone?

You do not have to print your voucher. A confirmation on your phone will be fine!

If I purchase a voucher as a gift, or am given a voucher how long is it valid for?

All of our vouchers expire one year from the date of purchase.

Can I choose my own cheese and meat?

Our guide will take care of everything. Should you wish to try something special, please inform our guide and they will do their best to make you happy.

Where does your food come from?

Top - quality, fresh and local! From Vendors and restaurants. All vendors are carefully regulated so that the food will be safe to eat.

What if it rains or I change my plans?

Unfortunately, the weather is unpredictable in Hanoi. We do not issue refunds as per our terms and conditions. We also inform you that we never cancel a booking even if we have only 2 people! Can I pay the tour in cash?

You must book directly on our website. We do not accept cash payments. Our online payment is safe, secured and SSL protected.

Why do we need to pay for booking fee?

The booking fee that you have to pay is up to our ticket provider and we can't change it. All our clients need to pay for it upon booking. The booking fee charged contributes to the cost of the ticketing system to provide an excellent service to our customers.

Foreign Transaction Fees

A few banks have charged their customer an extra fee while booking with us (this isn't the booking fee but another fee added by the bank). We think this is unfair, if this happens let us know by showing us in your bank statement and we will refund this fee as a gesture of good will.
