WHY OLD TOWN, SOUTHSIDE AND KIRK O' FIELD?

The Old Town is an absolute must do on any trip to Edinburgh, with some buildings dating back over 900 years and some of the richest history in the city. As much as we avoid the Royal Mile on the tour, you'll still see some of Edinburgh's most recognisable sights.

Southside takes you away from the tourist hub and into an area popular with students and rich in local history. The Charmed Circle and South Loch were huge parts of that area and remain a part of Edinburgh's history, and most importantly, a big part of our gin culture.

Kirk o' Field is just a few minutes' walk from Southside and home to one of the most recognisable views in Edinburgh: Arthur's Seat. Holyrood Park goes around from the bottom of the Royal Mile to the south-east of the city centre and was formerly home to the Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway, also known as 'The Innocent Railway'. Our final stop is in the old warehouse of the railway and is a wonderful place to end our journey together.

The tour normally ends on Jeffrey St or Market St, depending on the day. Technically all three are the same street, but at different parts of the old town.

All guests must arrive on time but if you inform us before the tour starts about being late we can try to assist you by telling you where the guide is. Please call the number on the contact us page. We only hold tours in English but do email us at [email protected] and we can see if there is a way to accommodate.

I CANNOT FIND ON THE WEBSITE HOW TO CHANGE THE DATE OF THE TOUR. CAN YOU CHANGE IT FOR ME OR HELP ME IN ANY WAY?

Yes, of course! Please let us know your reference number and the date that you want your booking to be moved. We can do this as long as you give us 48 hours notice, the tour is running that day and we have space on the tour.

1) IF WE BOOK ONLINE, DO WE NEED TO PAY FOR A BOOKING FEE?
2) IS THERE ANY WAY WE CAN PAY YOU DIRECTLY?

All customers have to pay a small booking fee charged by our ticket provider. 2) Yes! You can pay through Paypal, but Paypal also charges a fee so we have to add 4% onto the price.

WE HAVE TYPED THE CODE, BUT IT WON'T LET US BOOK. HOW ARE WE GOING TO USE THE CODE IF THE BOOKING WIDGET WON'T LET US?

Kindly give us the code and we will check this from our system.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE THE EDINBURGH FOOD TOUR IN THE EVENING?

Unfortunately due to closing times of some of our venues this is not possible.

Is your food tour suitable for a vegetarian or someone with other dietary requirements?

You can always tell our guide of any food allergies or special dietary requirements you might have, and we will adapt the menu so that you can enjoy the tour. If you have any doubt or concerns, feel free to email us at [email protected] before booking. We have had many vegetarians doing the tour with us and they all enjoyed it very much.

I am traveling with my family, is the tour ok for infants/children?

Children are more than welcome to our tour and it's free for any child 2 years or under!! We have had many families attend from all over the world and everyone enjoyed the tour. Unfortunately the tour is not suitable for babies and very young children.

Is there enough food during your tour?

We give enough food to all our customers. Trust us: you will not need to go to the restaurant after the food tour!

All of our vouchers expire one year from the date of purchase.

Our guide will take care of everything. Should you wish to try something special, please inform our guide and they will do his best to make you happy.

Where does your food come from?

We work with small restaurants and pubs in the area. The food and drink we buy is top-quality, fresh and local!

What if it rains or I change my plans?

Unfortunately, the weather is unpredictable in Edinburgh. We do not issue refunds as per our terms and conditions. We also inform you that we never cancel a booking even if we have only 2 people! However we do reserve the right to cancel the tour if we feel the weather is extreme, and we cannot run the tour due to this for more info see our Terms and Conditions: https://www.secretfoodtours.com/terms-and-conditions/

Can I pay the tour in cash?

You must book directly on our website. We do not accept cash payments. Our online payment is safe, secured and SSL protected.

Why do we need to pay for booking fee?

The booking fee that you have to pay is up to our ticket provider and we can't change it. All our clients need to pay for it upon booking. The booking fee charged contributes to the cost of the ticketing system to provide an excellent service to our customers.

Foreign Transaction Fees

A few banks have charged their customer an extra fee while booking with us (this isn't the booking fee but another fee added by the bank). We think this is unfair, if this happens let us know by showing us in your bank statement and we will refund this fee as a gesture of good will.
