Pitt Cue, A Meat Eater’s Paradise

I must admit that barbecue style food is slowly becoming my favourite kind of cuisine and London is becoming the ultimate playground for it.
So when my American friend challenged me to beating their signature dishes I knew exactly where to take him.

Pitt Cue is a meatlovers dream serving barbecue pulled pork, grilled onglets, slow cooked duck and succulent lamb to name a few. Pitt Cue has an ever changing menu so you will always be happily surprised with the options.

We went for the classic pulled pork with a side of green chilli slaw, beef sausage served with roasted peppers, and the caramelised beef ribs (from the extras menu) and a side of bone marrow mash. We chose to share everything because we just couldn’t decide between us.

The stand out dish for me had to be the caramelised beef ribs and the green chilli slaw. The meaty flavours were perfectly balanced with the posh slaw which I have tasted nothing in comparison. All mains come with a side and are priced from £11.50 to £18.50. If you go for a special, available on the evening menu, you get a large sharing plate of meat with any two sides for an average price of £36 to £44. Our dinner came to £61 including two drinks each and service charge.

Pitt cue is intimate to say the least; it seats 30 people in a basement so don’t be surprised if you have to queue or share a table as they do not take bookings. I recommend going for lunch to avoid this.

Kitchen opening hours are from 12pm – 3pm Monday to Saturday  & 6pm – 10.30pm. On Sunday & Bank holidays they open 12pm – 4pm. The bar opens slightly earlier so do arrive before the kitchen opens to reserve your seat. The service makes up for this with chirpy and knowledgeable staff. The bar menu also makes the wait a lot easier; the list of bourbons is top of the range.

I highly recommend this place for a late lunch after a spot of shopping in Carnaby Street. But make sure you come with an empty stomach!

VERDICT: Meat eaters’ dream, vegetarian nightmare.
